Blog Post 33- Adding Sounds To The Interview

The place that i filmed the interview was very loud and windy so the camera was not able to catch all of the sounds, so to prevent soft sound i got microphones that i would then have to add the sounds on top of and match them to the video clip. Im the real media world there are people called boom operators who hold the boom sticks. A boom stick is what catches all the sounds the camera might not pick up. They have many things that they need to do to make sure the job is done right , this includes making sure the mic is in the right placement, making sure there is no shadow, and move with the actor so every sound created is captured in the boom stick. As a small media distrubuter i have come to the conclusion that using small microphones connected to the mans shirt or as they are called a lavalier instead of a boomstick is the better option, this is for many reasons one that it may be a better qualitiy because it is closer to the person and the sounds they are making, besides the sticks that may become in frame or no capture everything. It is also much lighter than a stick and requires less people to hire, and less people to pay. Another reason being it is almost invisible as it is clipped to the perosns shirt and almost impossible to see, meanwhile there are many different ways a boom stick may pop up through shadows or at the top of the camera. And lastly that it may be extremley cost effective and the microphones may be way cheaper than full media equtiment.
