Blog Post 29- Editing Research

I went a researched many different types of editing styles to find the best one for my documentary, and i have finalized that it will be using what is called spilt screen editing. Spilt screen editing heavily expresses connections between two different people, scenes, events. All it is doing is showing the audiences two sepearate things and having the audience interpret them throughout specific tiny details. an example could be that a couple is both having the same desert even though they are miles apart but it shows they are still connected. But it does not just show connection it can show how different peoples lives could be, an example of this in my film can be the loud nosies of the sea when sleeping on the ship to the quiet nosies while everyone is asleep in there own beds. One of the features is having two people do a synchronized action, this once again shows meaning and connection even though they do not know it. Another part that may be benefitail for this type of editing may be to have a shared audio that goes across both scenes and multiple shots to further the connected idea.

Another form of editing that could be benefitial is cross-cutting. unlike spiltscreen this shows major contrats between to things or it may build tension. This is another way editing can effect the audiences emotions, by using cross-cutting this can allow the director to control how the audience is supposed to feel, having super fast cuts can intensify emotions while slower shots can create boardem within an audience. I want my documentray to be as emotion filled as possible, to really have a large impact on the audience, and these simple editing skilll can help achieve that.

This vidoe shows a perefct example of cross cutting and how the directors undirectly told the audience how they were supposed to feel.
