Blog Post 17- Editing Platform

Image
The platform i use is called Capcut, it has many editing features to make videos flow perfectly. It can be extremely beneficial for a teenager who works on creating things like documentaries, it can be used for social media editing and professional filmmaking like this project. It provides high level tool to make editing easy and accessable, for all people of all ages. This can be extremly important for a teenager like myself who does not have acess to tool that many professional people have, professionals may have very nice quality cameras, better computers for editing, and other more expensive or costly item that i do not have acess to.  I will use Capcut in the editing process of my filming to create a more interactive or entertaining documentary for the audience to watch, i will do this by using there many different editing tools as well as combine them to create an even better video than expected too.

Blog Post 16- Questions To Ask

Image
An interview is where someone is asking specific questions and them being answered in  a specific way to either influence the audience or entertain them. It is a structured conversation between two or more people where the interviewer is asking questions to gain information and provide feedback to audiences while the person being interviewed or the interviewee gives the answers to each question. Interviews for documentaries are mostly consisted of Q&As, where the questions are mostly going to be based off of expirences or something that has happened, possibly something that can and that they plan to happen in the future. These can be in person which is most common or for editing purposes a zoom call which can also be extremley benefical. In the image below you can see the how the two could be a video phone call and later on that can be edited in a cool way to create a more entertaining  For my interview i am going to have the interviwee sit in a seat with the navy base in ...

Blog Post 15- Interview Research

Image
During interviews people would have specific backgrounds to corilate to what they are talking about and in my case the mise-en-scene that is going to come into this is his uniform, having him in his uniform shows that he is in the military which provides the audience with a small bit of proof. As well as the background he is sitting in, i plan on filming on the navy ship around a couple different places to get the mise-en-scene on point. As you can see in the photo below the man is in front of a bunch of flags and military awards to show the achivements, which will give the audience a positive idea on the militray in general.  As for the questions itself, i am going to ask a series of 6 question and if it is too much i can cut out some of the less important ones. I am going to voiceover the question while another thing is showing and when he answers i am going to put the clip in while he is answering, i am going to do many close up shots to show the true emotions and steadica...

Blog Post 14- Planning Out The Documentary

Image
The first 5 minutes of documentaries are mostly background information that the audience may not know about the people or whatever is happening in the documentary. So i came to the conclusion that i only need to interview one person for around a minute or two while the rest of it is an introduction to the rest of the documentary Introduction is going to be where the name of the documentary production and etc. This should take around 45 seconds to keep the audience still watching and keep it entertaining and not boring. The introduction is a way to release background information to the audience and entertained. Other different scenes like editing will also be a large part of the first part of the documentary it usually is, to keep viewers interested with the cool editing techniques. Starting around 10 seconds you can see how the editing shows important details that they may have no gotten on video while still keeping the audience interested in what happening

Blog Post 13- Stereotypes

Image
In this documentary there will be one main stereotype, and that is that men cant live on there own. This will be shown through mise-en-scene. Since he is in the military and his base is over 3 hours away he decieded to buy his own house up there, and everytime we go up to his house it is a complete mess and i can almost guarentee that many other familes can relate to this so i thought it would be a great part to add in want to show clips of a messy house unmade bed, sink filled to the top with dirty dishes and more thing like that while having a voiceover of him talking about how challenging it is to keep up with it all and how it would be so much easier if he could have his wife around to help with those types of things that he is not great at.  By making this is creates the stereotype of men cannot live on there own and that they need.a women to do most of the chores around the house and it backs that up with all of these examples as well and what the man is saying to go wi...

Blog Post 12- Inconvince Of Filming

Image
The filming spot for half of the documentary is in Jacksonville Florida which in 3.5 hours away from the other location filming spot Hudson Florida. The driving aspect could be extremly intresting for audiences and show how far away the families truly are form one another, the different sceneires can show the different parts of Florida as well as the fact that they are so different to how for far they are. This may not be in my favor, since me and the filming crew have to go pretty far to get these shots but in the end it will be great.  Jacksonville and Hudson are too vasily different places with Jacksonville being a large and crowed city meanwhile Hudson is a more small and less populated town. Even being in the same state they have many different stores, roads, people, highways and more, they are two very unlike places, and this can be shown to the audience through all the mise en scene and little details of filming.  The main problem is debating if all of this is wor...

Blog Post 11- Colors From The Navy Perspective

Image
After long research and discussions with people in the navy there main colors are white, navy and grey, so most of the shots from the ship and near my stepfather will need to be in those color ranged to get logic within the audiences so it all makes sense. For each color im going to explain its meaning, and provide a picture and reasoning.  White can be used to show care, it is mainly used when things use a small amount of color, white often resembles purity and how it is hard to mix. This can be shown throw there clothing with the slight pop of collar in the tie but the rest of there outfit is plain and simple, which can be more classy to show respect and cleanliness Navy is a dark tone blue that in the military is mosr know for it meaning for authority and seriousness, as being one of the higher authorities in America it is chosen for uniforms and more professional settings like this because it can show off confidence respect. In a more emotional context, navy can signify c...

Blog Post 10- Lighting Research

Image
After extensive research i have came to the conclusion that i need to use alot of natural lighting to create a sense of normaility and show that thing like this are extremley normal and not out of the ordinary Natural lighting is mostly known as daylight in normal enviroments, it is simply the light that comes from the sun and the sky without changing much. Natural lighting makes it easier to not have to produce or take away any lighting during filming. An easier way to explain it is that if you were to turn off all the lightsd in your house there would still be lights from the windows coming from the sun. Throughtput the day this changes profusely from sunlight to sunset. Natural lighting is more free and not complex which will work perfectly for my documentary. Having more direct and forced light can be more harsh, but going with natural is way more soft and will create a better atmosphere.  This can benefit my documentary in many ways, one being that the light is simple an...

Blog Post 9 -Preliminary Exercise

Image
Each clip use a bunch of different techniques to represent something and provide meaning. This video shows heavy rain while somebody is driving home, this indicates fear through the heavy rain sounds, the shadow lighting to show what the audience should be looking at. The women's intense face  shows she is focusing because she is driving through dangerous weather conditions. The rapid speed of the windshield wipers to provide another example of the weather she is driving through.  In this short clip, it shows a young girl putting her Christmas ordaments on the tree for all to see. Through the mise-en-scene you can see the heavy pink coloring in her room showing off the little girl aspect of life and possibly her favorite color, this can lead into stereotypes that a females favorite color is pink, giving the audience an easy representation without directly showing it. The loud music in the background can show how silent it is and that she has nobody with her at a time whe...

Blog Post 8- Costuming Research

Image
After an extensive research i have come to a typical mom outfit to use during the film some examples of a basic mom fit are jeans with sweaters and ugg  shoes, the filming will be done in the winter so its going to be more warm attire. Colors are more nude and basic and sometimes a bit of color, beige and black were the most common and the reason for this was because "it goes along with anything" or "it matches with everything", these are things that mothers love to do with there wardrobe, it brings them a sense of happiness and by displaying that i can bring that emotion to others, and it can help other mothers relate to the film that can create a sense of normalilty for the audience. Moms tend to lean towards more comfertable clothing for a quick and easy day  this first image shows casual but comfy with its simple plain jeans but a pop of green from the jacket  this second outfit would be perfect for a quick arrens or running out of the house with a comfy red ho...

Blog Post 7- Sound Research Part Two

Image
Now instead of talking about added sounds i want to talk about natural sounds from filming. There is a large difference between each adults standpoint. From my step fathers point of view background sounds like people walking metal things clanking,  keyboard clicks, and many other working sounds. As for my mothers point of view her background noises could be people talking or on work calls or her cricket machine and espically her kids playing or fighting and horse play.  Having background noises can annunciate meaning and specific charcteristics to describe the plot, it can give people a better idea and a deeper understanding of what the scene is trying to imply, this can relate to mise-en-scene where different elements help emphasize a plot and create a deeper understanding for the audience. For the mother, if background noises like children fighting it creates a deeper feel from the audience showing that its difficult for mothers to handle multiple things at once, espic...

Blog Post 6 - Sound Research

Image
My research came from the movie purple hearts. I took the different sounds that i thought would go good with the documentary. adding sounds to make the audience laugh is the completly wrong idea and the opposite of what i want to do. the point of this documentary is to add emotional and make the audience have sympathy for a certain group of people.  Emotional and deeper more depressing musical tones can add to the factor of people or mothers raising  people on there own, and create a deeper connection with the audience. Often instraments like strings, percussion, piano and guitar create a deeper connection and a more emotion factor within the audience, these things evoke deep emotions, this can symbolize a sense of a unbalence or unstablization.  The movie purple hearts tends to have a more emotional music shown in her facial expressions, whihc is shown in the image below.
